UFC-Que Choisir, a French consumers group accused Apple of collecting iTunes and Apple Music users’ data’s.

The group accused the company of abusing of users’ data’s, such as their IP address or their location, without describing precisely what the data’s are going to be used for. First, Apple said that these pieces of information are not personal data’s. At the beginning, Apple was only accused of its terms and conditions being unclear. However, after the GDPR implemented in 2018, data protection became more stressed, as well as the group’s arguments.
The decision was made four years later. The French Court of Justice condemned the American company, that had not had to change its terms and conditions, but had to pay a penalty of 20 000 euros and 10 000 euros of processing fees to UFC-Que Choisir. Furthermore, he had to publish the whole judgement for three months on its homepage.
