János Stummer, Member of Parliament for Jobbik, submitted a written question entitled: "For what kind of rule of law guarantees did you call to account the Regional Director of Facebook?"
In other words, why does the Digital Freedom Committee ask for the rule of law and freedom of expression from Facebook? On the one hand, I am glad that Jobbik is also following the Committee's work with great interest, as it is a confirmation that our work is important and is in the public interest. On the other, I regret that MP Stummer seems to be more concerned about the tech giant.
We ensure transparency in the digital space and the enforcement of fundamental rights, in particular the freedom of expression, for the protection of the Hungarian people. In other words, we want to see that rule of law norms work in the online space, as well. Therefore, in August, we wrote another letter to the regional director of Facebook asking about the operation, the decision-making principles and the guarantees of the expected independence of the Supervisory Board set up by Facebook. For these questions, we are still waiting the answers.
